ALRI has Rebranded to Encore Learning

At our June 2012 annual meeting, members voted to ratify the Board decision to change our name from Arlington Learning in Retirement Institute to Encore Learning.  As part of the transition, this website will continue to be accessible under the current address until our new website is up and running.

Annual Membership Meeting – Friday, June 7, 2013

Please plan to attend this once-a-year event.  It provides an opportunity for you to meet and elect Encore Learning’s leadership and offer feedback on Encore Learning issues of interest to you.  The Annual Membership Meeting will be held in Room 118 of the Fairlington Community Center, located at 3308 S. Stafford Street in Arlington.  The meeting begins at 9:00 am, with a social period and light refreshments, and will conclude at 12:00 Noon.

Encore Learning Summer Office Hours

During the summer months, the Encore Learning office operates on reduced hours.  Beginning Tuesday, May 28th, the Encore Learning office will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays only from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  The office will resume normal operating hours (Monday through Thursday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM) after the Labor Day Holiday on Tuesday, September 3rd.  If you wish to contact us, please send an email to Info@EncoreLearning.net or leave a voice mail message at 703-228-2144 and someone will contact you as soon as possible.

We’ve Moved!

On December 21st, 2012, the Encore Learning office moved from its location in Clarendon to the Syphax Education Center located at 2110 Washington Boulevard (Sequoia Building #2).  The move was part of the co-location of Arlington Public Schools (APS) offices, classrooms, staff and parent support facilities from the Syphax and Clarendon Education Center (CEC) buildings.  The Encore Learning office is now open in its new location.  The Encore Learning telephone number has remained the same – 703-228-2144.

Spring 2013 Semester

The spring semester is well underway.  Registration for the spring 2013 semester began on Monday, February 4th at 10:00am. Paper registrations received prior to February 4 were processed in random order beginning at 10:00 am on February 4.  Thereafter, paper registrations are processed in the order received.  Several courses have already filled up! Please note that Encore Learning DOES NOT maintain wait lists for courses.  If you haven’t already registered for spring courses, time is running out! 

New Parking Option for classes at GMU

We hold many of our classes in the new Founders Hall building on GMU's Arlington campus.  The facility is receiving rave reviews from members.  Metered parking ($1.25 per hour) is available on the streets surrounding the campus but now the Founders Hall garage is open to the public.  The entrance to the Founders Hall garage is on N. Kirkwood Road between Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Drive and the rate is $3 per hour.  Parking in the Foundation Building and Truland Building garages is by permit only and is subject to ticketing. 


Special Events

New items are added to the Special Events calendar frequently.  Please keep abreast by checking the website. Members are sent monthly updates via email and current events are listed in our newsletter. On-line reservations for Special Events are easy, requiring just the member’s first and last name.  Our free events held at the Arlington Central Library require no reservation and are a great way for non-members to get to know our organization.
